Saul Newman, a senior research fellow at University College London, suggests that people who want to live to 110 should move to the most deprived area in their country. In the UK, Tower Hamlets in east London has the highest number of people aged 105 or 110. Newman believes that poverty and shorter lifespans may be predictors of living to a very old age. He won the 2024 Ig Nobel prize for demography for his work in Australia and the UK. These very elderly individuals not only receive pension payments, but also create positive publicity and benefits for their communities.
