Excessive exposure to outdoor light at night can increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, especially in younger adults. A study published in Frontiers in Neuroscience found that nighttime light pollution is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer’s, with a higher prevalence in individuals under 65. The study compared the impact of light pollution against other known risk factors for Alzheimer’s and found that in those over 65, light pollution had a stronger association with the disease than other factors like alcohol abuse or obesity. Easy lifestyle changes, such as using blackout curtains, can help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s in areas with high light pollution.
