Remission of type 2 diabetes feasible with soup and shake diet intervention

admin

A study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology found that a behavioral intervention supporting weight loss can lead to remission of type 2 diabetes. The intervention included a 12-month program that involved total diet replacement for three months, followed by behavioral support for weight loss. Results showed an average weight loss of 8.3% or 9.4 kg for participants who started the program and 9.3% or 10.3 kg for those who completed it. Remission of type 2 diabetes was achieved in 27-32% of participants who had two hemoglobin A1c measurements recorded. The study suggests that remission is possible through at-scale delivery, although the rate may be lower than in research settings.
