CDC issues alert for dengue infection; influenza vaccine for older adults

admin

The CDC issued a health alert in June about the increased risk of dengue infection in the U.S., with reported cases more than doubling compared to the previous year. There have been 2,869 cases of dengue reported in 48 U.S. jurisdictions, mostly in Puerto Rico. Florida is the only state reporting local infections. The impact of climate change and the importance of testing for dengue were discussed by CDC experts. Other top infectious disease stories included the importance of annual flu vaccinations for older adults, a new add-on code for infectious disease consults, the use of daily doxycycline for STI prevention, and the WHO’s effort to develop an mRNA vaccine against bird flu.
