To better compete in a fast-growing city, UF Health has opened three hybrid emergency room and urgent care centers in Jacksonville, Florida in collaboration with Intuitive Health. The centers offer 24/7 care and determine whether patients need urgent or emergency care, billing accordingly. This model aims to prevent patients from unknowingly choosing more expensive emergency care when urgent care would suffice. The centers accept most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, but patients without insurance are charged a flat fee for urgent care services. While this new model has not been extensively researched, it aims to provide more affordable and efficient care options for patients.
