On July 19, 2024, a global IT outage caused by a software bug from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike impacted major hospital systems, including Emory Health in Atlanta. Due to this issue, many hospitals, such as Mount Sinai, Northwell Health, and NHS, had to cancel nonemergency medical procedures and appointments. UofL Health is working through the problems caused by the outage to ensure continuity of patient care. Despite the chaos, some hospitals like Johns Hopkins have managed to maintain normal operations with minimal impact. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz apologized for the inconvenience and disruption, pledging to work with impacted customers to restore systems.
