Researchers at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research have developed a new technique to diagnose disorders of sex development (DSD) by reprogramming skin cells into testicular cells (Sertoli cells). This method allows for studying genetic processes that lead to intersex conditions in patients. The research aims to address the lack of availability of gonadal tissue by enabling diagnostic tests on reprogrammed skin cells. Another study identified a new target for mutations contributing to DSDs, while a separate piece of research focused on understanding the role of the ATR-X gene in genital and testicular abnormalities. These advancements provide insights into the mechanisms underlying sex development disorders.
