Labour’s new health and social care secretary Wes Streeting is optimistic about resolving the junior doctors’ pay dispute after meeting with them face-to-face for the first time. He wants to improve relations between the government and junior doctors to end the nearly two-year-old dispute. Streeting had an initial phone call with junior doctor leaders on his first day and then met with BMA representatives on July 9 to start formal talks. While he acknowledged that it won’t be easy, Streeting is determined to find a solution and move forward from the ongoing pay dispute with junior doctors.
