Nutritious diet may protect against type 2 diabetes, regardless of genetics

A study from the University of Eastern Finland shows that adhering to a healthy diet can lead to better blood glucose levels and lower the risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, even in individuals with a high genetic predisposition for the disease. The study, conducted on middle-aged and elderly men, found that a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, and whole grains was associated with improved glucose metabolism. The research suggests that a healthy diet benefits everyone, regardless of their genetic risk for type 2 diabetes. The findings were published in the European Journal of Nutrition.
