Yellow fever is a potentially deadly infectious disease caused by a virus spread by mosquitoes, primarily found in Africa and South America. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, and in severe cases, jaundice and internal bleeding. There is no specific treatment, but vaccination is highly recommended for travelers to high-risk areas. The vaccine offers lifelong protection and should be administered at least three to four weeks before travel. The CDC advises against vaccination for travelers going to low-risk areas unless there is prolonged exposure to mosquitoes. Prevention strategies include wearing protective clothing and using insect repellent to avoid mosquito bites.
