High salt intake has negative effects on health, such as raising blood pressure and increasing the risk of heart attacks and kidney diseases. New research suggests that it could also worsen the signs of atopic dermatitis, a type of eczema. Eczema causes dry, itchy, and bumpy skin and affects more than 31 million Americans. Cutting salt intake is a cost-effective and low-risk way for eczema patients to manage their condition. Studies show that even consuming an extra gram of salt per day can increase the likelihood of eczema flares by 22%. Researchers found that higher sodium intake was associated with increased risk and severity of eczema in both UK and US populations.
