A study published by The BMJ shows that the HPV vaccination program in England has significantly reduced cervical disease in all socioeconomic groups. The vaccination has been particularly effective in preventing cervical cancer and precancerous lesions, with rates being 84% lower in vaccinated women compared to unvaccinated women. The program has prevented a significant number of cancers and precancerous lesions, with the greatest impact seen in women from the most deprived areas. The study emphasizes the importance of HPV vaccination in reducing health inequalities and calls for efforts to achieve high vaccination coverage to eliminate disparities in cervical cancer rates.
