Research has found that untreated hypertension in women can increase the risk of developing uterine fibroids, noncancerous tumors on the uterus wall. A study of 2,570 women aged 42-52 found that those with untreated high blood pressure had a 19% higher risk of fibroids, while those receiving treatment had a 20% lower risk. Participants taking ACE inhibitors had a 48% reduced risk of fibroids. However, the study relied on self-reported diagnoses and further investigation is needed to understand the mechanism behind the association. Researchers suggest that controlling blood pressure may help prevent the development of fibroids in high-risk women.
