Telehealth company Cerebral has agreed to limit the use of consumer health data for advertising and pay $7 million to settle charges of disclosing personal health information to third parties. The Federal Trade Commission ordered Cerebral to stop using health information for advertising purposes. The company, known for providing counseling services and prescriptions for mental health conditions, was found to have violated customer privacy by revealing sensitive mental health information online and in the mail. FTC Chair Lina Khan stated that this is a first-of-its-kind prohibition to prevent Cerebral from using health information for most advertising purposes.
