One-Minute Speech Test Could Help Assess Dementia Risk

admin

Research suggests that analyzing temporal changes in speech could be a simple way of detecting mild cognitive impairment and identifying the risk of developing dementia. The Speech-Gap Test focuses on temporal speech parameters such as speech rate, hesitations, and silent pauses. It is a tool for initial screening, not diagnosis, to quickly flag patients with potential cognitive issues. The goal is to develop a more sophisticated version that combines temporal speech parameters with biomarkers for diagnosis. Addressing modifiable risk factors such as treating comorbid conditions can help mitigate the risk of dementia. The S-GAP Test is being developed by the University of Szeged.
