A study on people with type 1 diabetes found that breaking up long sitting periods with short, frequent walks can reduce postprandial vascular inflammatory biomarkers. The SIT-LESS trial involved 32 inactive individuals who either sat for 7 hours or took light walks every 30 minutes after meals. Those who walked had lower levels of inflammatory markers. Regular walking breaks mitigated the negative effects of prolonged sitting on vascular health. The study, led by Nawaz Z. Safdar, was published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism. Limitations include a small sample size and lack of insight into the mechanisms behind the findings. The study was supported by Diabetes UK with no conflicts of interest declared.
