Developing a new NHS service for young people with gender dysphoria has been a significant challenge due to poor data on long-term outcomes of treatment. A review found that existing guidelines for treating children with gender issues were developed in breach of international standards. The review highlighted issues with the evidence base for treatments, lack of data on outcomes, and the need for a more holistic approach to care. It recommended the creation of regional services and a flexible workforce model to meet the needs of this population. More research is needed to understand the effectiveness and risks of treatments for young people with gender dysphoria.
