A German study presented at the European Association of Urology Congress in Paris found that a simple blood test every five years is sufficient for low-risk men to screen for prostate cancer, based on their PSA levels. The study involved over 12,500 men aged 45-50 and is part of the ongoing PROBASE trial. The study suggests that by adjusting the screening interval and criteria for low-risk men, unnecessary testing and treatment can be minimized. However, current guidelines in European countries are contradictory and unclear, leading to disparities in access to early diagnosis and screening. Additional research is needed to develop appropriate screening programs.
