The study found that refrigeration of cyclosporine drops can reduce instillation discomfort among patients with dry eye disease. Participants in the study reported lower discomfort with cold instillation compared to warm instillation, with relief lasting up to 9 minutes after instillation. The cold drops were associated with significantly lower cumulative discomfort, and 60% of participants experienced reduced discomfort with cold instillation. There were no clinical parameters that predicted reduced discomfort with cold instillation. Further research is recommended to confirm these findings, as the study did not involve masking, which may have influenced participants’ perceptions.
