A study published in the Journal of Ophthalmology found that 200 mg of caffeine elevated blood pressure but did not impact retinal vessel density after 2 hours in healthy low caffeine users. The caffeine group had higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to the placebo group 2 hours after taking the pill. However, there were no differences in retinal vessel density measured by OCT angiography between the two groups. The study highlights the need for ongoing research to better understand the effects of caffeine on the human body, despite its widespread daily consumption by 85% of the U.S. population.
