Charlie Rolstone, a 44-year-old woman from the U.K., believed her migraines, motion sickness, and occasional blackouts were due to spending too much time on her phone. However, a medical emergency revealed she had a rare brain disorder, Chiari malformation, caused by an abnormal skull structure. A seizure led to the diagnosis, which also uncovered epilepsy, brain lesions, and an aneurysm. Rolstone manages her symptoms with painkillers and limits phone use. Chiari malformation can present with various symptoms, including headaches, neck pain, numbness, and difficulty swallowing. Type 2 Chiari malformation is associated with spina bifida and can also cause swallowing difficulties, changes in breathing, eye movements, and weakness.
