Research published in 2024 highlighted progress in preventing and understanding nosocomial infections caused by Candida auris and Clostridioides difficile. Studies explored prevention bundles, environmental sampling, patient testing, and the role of cockroaches in spreading outbreaks. One study found that cockroaches can carry pathogens linked to nosocomial infections. Other research showed the benefits of expanded screening for C. auris, shorter antibiotic courses for bloodstream infections, and the link between cockroaches and multidrug-resistant bacteria outbreaks. Implementing infection prevention plans, active screening strategies, and pathogen reduction were effective in reducing healthcare-associated transmission and improving patient outcomes.
