In response to the skyrocketing cost of EpiPens, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a law requiring health insurers to cover at least two auto-injectors per patient, limiting annual out-of-pocket costs to $100. The cost of EpiPens has risen by 600% since 2007, making it difficult for individuals with severe allergies to afford this life-saving medication. The legislation, effective January 1, 2026, aims to ensure equitable access to EpiPens for those with commercial health insurance. Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of immediate access to EpiPens in cases of anaphylaxis, stating that people’s lives should not be jeopardized by high medication costs.
