The study focused on the impact of the Nlgn3R451C mutation on the cerebellum in mice, particularly on the projections from cerebellar nuclei to different brain regions. The mutation was found to alter innervation patterns, with increased connections to the zona incerta (ZI). Chemogenetic inhibition of specific neurons in the ZI helped alleviate social deficits in mutant mice, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for autism. The findings shed light on the role of cerebellar outputs in autism and propose new treatment strategies. This study provides valuable insights into the structural and functional changes in the cerebellum associated with autism spectrum disorders.
