Only 55% of ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients were brought directly to a specialist center for treatment. The report found that patients who arrived directly at a PCI center had a higher chance of receiving timely treatment compared to those who were transferred between hospitals. There was an increase in referrals for cardiac rehabilitation and smoking cessation advice for patients. The report highlighted the importance of timely intervention for all patients to improve outcomes. More education is needed to inform the public about the benefits of choosing ambulance transport for heart attack patients to save more lives in the future.
