The UK government has resurrected legislation to combat youth vaping and create a smoke-free generation by banning tobacco sales to those born after January 1, 2009. While this is a positive step, improving the country’s health record requires action on other leading causes of premature death and disability. Alcohol, as a type 1 carcinogen, leads to health issues and social harm, particularly affecting the poorest. Despite proven strategies to reduce alcohol harm such as taxation, availability restrictions, and advertising bans, the UK government has shown little initiative. Implementing a comprehensive strategy, free from industry influence, is essential to address alcohol harm and improve public health.
