Healthcare organizations in the U.S. are losing an average of $1.9 million per day during downtime following ransomware attacks, with 654 attacks on medical organizations since 2018 and 143 in just the past year. These attacks make it difficult for providers to access patient data and provide care until hackers are paid or ransomware is removed. A report predicts an increase in attacks in 2025, with ransom demands averaging $1.18 million. Recovery costs, including system restoration and lost revenue, are also significant. To mitigate these risks, healthcare providers need to establish incident response plans, communication strategies, and regular backups.
