Deegant Adhvaryu helped his parents apply for Medicaid and food benefits in June. Due to delays and incomplete applications, his parents, ages 71 and 76, were left without coverage in Georgia, even though they had it in Virginia. This was due in part to the implementation of the Georgia Pathways to Coverage program, which added inefficiencies and bureaucracy to the application process. The slow processing times caused financial strain and forced families to delay care. While some were fortunate enough to receive assistance from family members like Adhvaryu, others were not as fortunate and struggled to access the benefits they needed.
