A randomized controlled trial was conducted to assess the effect of electrically heated mittens on physical hand function in people with osteoarthritis of the hands. 200 participants were assigned to wear either heated mittens or control mittens daily for six weeks. The primary outcome, change in hand function, showed no significant difference between the two groups. However, heated mittens did show a small benefit in hand pain and stiffness. Adherence to wearing the mittens was high, indicating potential feasibility for use in this patient population. Overall, electrically heated mittens did not provide significant additional benefits for hand osteoarthritis symptoms.
