Eating Candy and Cake Linked to Reduced Risk of Heart Disease in Stunning New Study

A new study from Lund University suggests that consuming sugary snacks like cake, chocolate, and cookies may actually lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. The research followed nearly 70,000 Swedes for up to 22 years and found that twice daily consumption of sugary treats was linked to a reduced risk of ischemic stroke and heart attack. While sugar from sweetened beverages was associated with an increased risk of heart failure, sugar from pastries, chocolates, and jams seemed to offer protective benefits. However, researchers caution that more investigation is needed to understand the biological mechanisms behind these results. Despite the findings, moderation in sugar consumption is still advised.
