Three Democratic senators are asking for an investigation into the costs of Georgia’s Medicaid work requirement program, which has cost tens of millions in federal and state dollars for administration and consulting fees. The senators are concerned about the true costs of the Republican health care agenda and want an independent watchdog to assess the program. Georgia’s program, called “Pathways to Coverage,” requires some Medicaid applicants to prove they are working, volunteering, or studying for 80 hours a month. The program has faced criticism for its high costs and slow processing times for other Medicaid applications. The program is set to expire on Sept. 30 unless it is granted an extension.
