Every year, over 3000 infants under six months old die from unsafe sleep positions in the U.S., including accidental strangulation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is the sudden, unexplained death of a healthy baby, often associated with incorrect sleeping positions. A recent study found that 12% of four-month-old infants are placed in unsafe sleep positions, with 1 in 5 mothers continuing this practice for the first six months. Placing babies on their back in a crib with a firm mattress and no loose items is the safest sleep practice to prevent SIDS and other sleep-related deaths.
