A study from Simon Fraser University found that the use of antidepressants is linked to sexual side effects, such as reduced genital sensitivity that can persist even after stopping the medication. Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD) is a syndrome where sexual function does not return to normal after discontinuing antidepressant use. The study, which focused on mainly LGBTQ young people in Canada and the U.S., highlighted the urgent need for better education and understanding around the effects of antidepressants on sexual experiences. More robust patient and prescriber education is needed to inform individuals of the risks associated with these medications.
