A new study from the American Medical Association found that Americans spend an average of 12.4 years living with diseases, longer than any other country. Mental and substance-use disorders and musculoskeletal diseases contribute the most to this time. Women spend 2.6 more years sick than men, with an average of 13.7 years. Globally, people spend an average of 9.6 years sick, with Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Northern Ireland following behind the U.S. Countries like Lesotho, Central African Republic, Somalia, and Kiribati spend the least amount of time sick.
