Researchers conducted a meta-analysis on 113 trials involving 15,000 adults with ADHD to identify the most effective treatments. They found that the selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor atomoxetine and stimulants like amphetamines and methylphenidate were the most effective in managing symptoms. Other treatments like bupropion, clonidine, and guanfacine extended release were also examined, along with non-pharmacological strategies like cognitive behavioral therapy. However, long-term effects of these treatments were not well-studied. Atomoxetine and stimulants were found to be effective in reducing core symptoms of ADHD at 12 weeks, but more research is needed to assess long-term efficacy and safety.
