The American College of Rheumatology is part of a coalition advocating for Medicare reimbursement reform for biosimilars due to providers being underpaid for administering these medications. The coalition, made up of over 40 organizations, has sent a letter to congressional leaders expressing concerns about the financial burden on providers and potential negative impacts on patient care. The current reimbursement rates force providers to choose between financial loss, transferring patients to other facilities, or changing treatment plans. The coalition has proposed amendments to address this issue, including add-on payments to providers’ acquisition costs and permanently removing manufacturer rebates from average sales price calculations.
