A recent study explored the potential of urinary pentosidine as a biomarker for muscle strength and physical fitness in young adult men. The study found that higher urinary pentosidine levels were associated with lower muscle mass and grip strength. However, there was no correlation with body fat percentage. Additionally, urinary pentosidine levels were marginally related to performance in the functional reach test. Findings also showed that urinary NTx levels were linked to mobility as measured by the timed up and go test. The study emphasizes the importance of further research to understand the biological mechanisms and potential interventions related to urinary pentosidine levels in young adults.
