A recent study from the University of Michigan found that teens are not using electronic nicotine vapes to help quit smoking, despite marketing claims. Instead, reasons for vaping among adolescents include curiosity, boredom, and stress relief. The most common reason reported by students was relaxation, with less than 10% of high school seniors saying vaping helped them quit smoking. This research highlights the importance of understanding why teens vape, particularly the significant role of stress relief. The study suggests incorporating mental health support into prevention programs, as well as screening for stress and anxiety alongside nicotine use.
