President-elect Donald Trump announced that medical doctor and former Fox News contributor Janette Nesheiwat will be nominated to be the next surgeon general. The surgeon general is responsible for providing Americans with scientific information to improve health and reduce illness. Nesheiwat, a family and emergency medicine doctor currently serving as medical director at CityMD, is known for advocating preventive medicine and public health. Unlike some other health officials, she does not have a history of criticizing vaccines. Hopes are high for her nomination, with praise from vaccine scientist Peter Hotez. Nesheiwat has also authored a book about the power of prayer and healing in medicine.
