A study conducted by researchers at Wenzhou Medical University in China found that changes in sleep patterns as individuals age are linked to successful aging. Successful aging was defined as the absence of major chronic diseases, physical impairments, high cognitive function, good mental health, and active engagement with life. The study analyzed sleep duration trajectories in Chinese middle-aged and older adults from 2011 to 2015 and identified five distinct patterns. Participants with increasing and short stable sleep trajectories had lower odds of successful aging, highlighting the importance of maintaining stable and adequate sleep for healthy aging in the elderly population.
