An analysis of over 32 million research abstracts published over the past 50 years has revealed that common spelling errors in academic publications have been on the rise. Eleven out of 15 common errors have shown a significant increase, with the total error rate jumping from 0.1 per 10,000 abstracts in 1970 to 8.7 per 10,000 in 2023. This trend was identified by statistics experts from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. These findings suggest that publishing standards may not be improving as expected.
