Dr. Rachel M. Lee and Dr. Ken Cardona presented research at the Society of Surgical Oncology meeting on a risk score to stratify patients with pulmonary metastases based on preoperative characteristics. Factors such as age, primary tumor location, resection status, tumor grade, and number of lung lesions were found to impact overall survival. A risk score ranging from 0 to 4 was developed, with higher scores indicating lower five-year survival rates. Patients with a low-risk score had a significantly higher five-year survival rate compared to those with a high-risk score. External validation with a larger cohort is needed to implement the risk score in clinical practice.
