The global Medicines Safety Week campaign is encouraging people to report suspected side effects of medicines. The campaign involves medicines regulators from 107 organizations across 94 countries and emphasizes the importance of using medicines correctly to prevent side effects. Patients are reminded to read the package leaflet and take medicine as instructed by a healthcare professional. Medicines regulators have reporting systems to monitor the safety of medicines, and in Ireland, anyone can report side effects online. The Health Products Regulatory Authority assesses and examines all reports to protect medicine users. The campaign is supported by the World Health Organization and the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities.
