Orion Innovations, a Utah-based healthcare startup, has developed a product called MedLite ID that helps nurses access medication lines faster and with less mental effort. This device attaches to hospital IV lines and uses light to aid in identification and tracing of medication infusion lines, reducing the risk of errors. Orion’s studies with Wake Forest University and a Houston-based VA hospital demonstrate that MedLite ID is more efficient and less mentally demanding for nurses than standard methods, particularly in low-light ICU conditions. The goal is to prevent medication errors like the RaDonda Vaught case, where a nurse’s mistake led to a patient’s death.
