Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Forsa, and Unite have voted in favor of industrial action due to the non-filling and delayed filling of vacant positions in the public health system. INMO members want to ensure a properly staffed health service and have criticized the pausing of hiring critical staff to balance the books. Fórsa members also voted for industrial action due to suppressed job vacancies affecting services. Unite union members in public healthcare have also voted for industrial action, with the decision on the form of action to be made in the next three weeks. Health unions have organized lunchtime protests at hospitals across the country.
