Dysregulated metabolic pathways in late pregnancy tied to higher type 2 diabetes incidence

Dysregulated amino and fatty acid metabolism during late pregnancy was linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in women with a history of gestational diabetes. This was found in a study involving 102 pregnant women with gestational diabetes. The study observed that higher levels of certain amino acids were associated with elevated 2-hour glucose levels, while higher levels of fatty acids and lipids were associated with lower fasting 2-hour glucose levels and increased insulin sensitivity. Overall, dysregulations in amino acids raised the risk of type 2 diabetes, while dysregulations in fatty acids and lipids lowered the risk.
