President-elect Trump has chosen Dr. Mehmet Oz, a surgeon and television personality, to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This agency sets policies for payments to hospitals, doctors, and insurers, overseeing Medicare, Medicaid, and ACA health plans. Trump aims for Oz to address chronic diseases and work with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Senate confirmation is required for this position. Despite facing criticism for medical misinformation, Oz supports vaccines and masks. He has promoted private Medicare plans and suggested enrolling Americans in Medicare Advantage plans for universal coverage. Oz’s nomination has initial support from Senate members.
