Preliminary research presented at the American Heart Association’s Resuscitation Science Symposium 2024 found that starting CPR within minutes of a cardiac arrest significantly increases the chances of survival and protecting brain function. A study of nearly 200,000 cases showed that receiving bystander CPR within two minutes resulted in an 81% higher survival rate and 95% higher chance of surviving without brain damage. Even CPR administered up to 10 minutes after cardiac arrest improved survival rates. The study emphasizes the importance of quick action in emergencies, highlighting the need for widespread CPR training and better public access to automated external defibrillators.
