Doctors have been using needles for drug injection since the 1600s, especially for biologic drugs that can’t be taken orally. However, a new device inspired by sea creatures like cuttlefish aims to revolutionize drug delivery. This device can be swallowed like a pill and uses jets to spray drugs into deeper tissues, increasing efficiency. Tests on a pig showed promising results, with over 10% of the drug being absorbed. While further testing is needed, this innovation could make drug delivery more convenient and effective for patients, especially for drugs like insulin and antibodies that currently require injections.
