University Hospital Galway (UHG) is experiencing high levels of overcrowding in its emergency department, leading to the postponement of some elective procedures. On Monday and Tuesday, 265 and 240 people, respectively, attended the ED. Currently, 44 patients are waiting on trolleys due to a lack of inpatient beds. The hospital is prioritizing urgent cases and contacting patients directly if their procedure is postponed. UHG is urging people to only attend the emergency department in emergency situations and to consider visiting a GP or the Roscommon Injury Unit for non-emergency cases. The hospital is committed to treating everyone who arrives at its ED.
